Overview
Kinugawa Onsen is a popular hot spring resort located in the mountains of Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. Its name comes from an old legend about demons (“oni”) who once guarded this area. Today, large hotels and traditional ryokan line the valley, offering open-air baths with breathtaking views of the river and surrounding mountains throughout the four seasons. The waters are mildly alkaline, known for relieving fatigue and leaving the skin smooth.

In Kinugawa, grilled ayu (sweetfish) caught in the local rivers is a must-try dish. You can also enjoy “yuba,” a delicacy made from soy milk, which is a specialty of nearby Nikko.
